Gettysburg Daily Site Review by Civil War Talk

Welcome to my first Civil War web site review, my name is Mike Kendra, and I'm the webmaster of CivilWarTalk.com. Today I'd like to review one of my favorite Civil War web sites with you, it's a blog, but it's also a like a news site, it's known as Gettysburg Daily. You can find it at www.GettysburgDaily.com.

This web site has been around since February 24th, 2008, and it features a daily photo or video post about the Gettysburg Battlefield.

Gettysburg Daily was started by Bobby Housch, a Gettysburg Licensed Battlefield Guide, and it features his photos as well as his point of view on current events and happenings on and around the battlefield. The site also features video tours of the Battlefield and nearby points of interest led by other Licensed Battlefield Guides, as well panoramic photo studies of various Battlefield locations to show changes as time passes and as the seasons change.

Gettysburg Daily is well known for reporting on the demolition of the old Visitors Center, photographing vandalism to monuments like the Peace Light, the photo evidence of Battlefield Witness Trees being cut down, reporting of damage done by storms and paving crews, and for being the eyes and ears of thousands who love the Gettysburg Battlefield.

If I were being picky, I'd point out that there is no way to interact with Gettysburg Daily, you can't leave comments, they never have polls, there is no place for the viewer to express themselves. Perhaps this isn't an oversight, instead Bobby Housch has designed a web site with a singular purpose, to present his daily view of the battlefield, and Bobby does that one thing very well!

This site is an excellent resource for anyone who wants to know about the everyday happenings at and around the battlefield. I would recommend this site to anyone with an interest in the Gettysburg Battlefield.
