Is it rubbish when some old audiophile insists that his old record sounds better than your new $400 iPod? Watch to find out, and also, advice on buying a turntable. (This video is considered a follow on from the video Vinyl Mania!)

  • @TCDF22 If there's one thing I dislike about vinyl, it's all the pretentious idiots who come with it who don't understand anyone younger than them appreciating the technology.

  • @2the9s1 You can't, their completely different formats. It's like the difference between a ceramic cartridge versus a magnetic cartridge. Both cartridges give realy good sound but sound completely different. Look at it like this, Digital is very bright and crisp whare as analog is more of a warm glow.

  • @morrismagic08 how do I make digital sound like analog then?

  • @2the9s1 Of course it is, because digital is data that needs to be compressed. Analog is raw, for want of a better word. For digital to sound as good as analog you would have to spend some Major bucks on your system! For the average guy like you and me a simple record deck and decant amp is all you'd need for your system to sound as good if not better than an expensive digital set up.

  • @morrismagic08 ok I agree but analog sound, to me, is better than digital sound

  • @2the9s1 Digital does have it's benefits though, most of all portabillity. You can't exactly take a record player in the car with you or if you walk to work or collage:D Anyone who want's the most out of their music will have a decent record player/turntable in their livingroom, but for out and about ipods and the like are a great invention so I wouldn't completely dismiss digital.

  • @morrismagic08 that is why analog is better than digital

  • @vbrindle Oh and please nobody mention MP3. In my eyes MP3 is (and was designed to be) a replacement of the tape.

  • I have just bought a turntable (albeit a Sony PS LX 300 USB, but I've not used the USB as I can record on my Zoom H2 at better rates).

When playing an album I could tell the difference. It was more warm and natural.

I think I've gone on a roll since properly setting up my seperates in a room I can listen properly from which I've not listened properly for years. I could see what I was missing just by playing a CD, but I've now started moving into the Vinyl area. It felt more natural sound.
