Not everyday do you see this great French car with the distinguished history! The founders were Panhard et Levassor of Paris...and they started making engines for Benz and Peugeot. By 1894 they were making their own car, with front engine, steering wheel as opposed to tiller and chain drive. The "Dynamic" in 1937 had a center mounted steering wheel and torsion bars at each wheel. Their engines won many events at LeMans. After the war they focused on small cars. • Certain types of French car are like nothing else on the planet, this being one of them. What made them (the French) tick? Why did they produce such off-the-wall designs? I reckon I've got accounts of these cars somewhere, not super-quick but nippy enough for the engine capacity and super smooth. I do reckon I've seen one or two in the metal but struggling to remember where - maybe an all air-cooled day at Duxford Imperial War Museum back in 2003.

  • @rx6180 Hey, Mick! Yes indeed...the French seemed to have made it a point of national pride back in the day to not produce cars that were like the rest of cars! I just learned that Simca which I always thought of as French was really a car Fiat made in France, avoiding the import tax. Simcas were sold by Chrysler Corp. over here, and although they had a good reputation, the relationship did not last..typical of imports sold in Chrysler showrooms...another example...Plymouth Arrow! :) Jack

  • Hey, Jack! Yes, very rare indeed, I'm usually pretty good with rare stuff, but even I didn't recognize this car and had to luck it up :| ... But it's quite nice though, great find, Jack :)

  • @drewerz01 Hey, Mike! It is really unusual..and NEVER seen on the roads over here...I'm lucky to have found it!

    Thanks! :) Jack

  • Never seen one in my life! And FWD? I want it Jack! NOW LOL. TY. Oh Beautiful Crown Vic that drove by.

  • @gene978 Hey, Gene! You never know when you'll see these rare cars here...the owner told me no one knows what it is...I had heard of Panhard before, but fortunately for me, this had identification on the car! LOL! Thanks!

    :) Jack

  • @cheddyrod Hey, Chester! Yes indeed...I see it as stylish for the time, advanced, and the result of some great engineering! Thanks! :) Jack

  • Panhard was truly significant in the development of the automobile. This would really be at home cruising the tree-lined roads of France. Nice car. :)
