Music by Owl City - Fireflies

This project took just over a month and 20,000 photos and the end product was a video just shy of 2 minutes.

Equipment used:
Canon 7D
Canon 70-200 F2.8 L
Canon 24-105 F4 L
Sigma 10-20 4-5.6 (used this the most)
Tripod (duh)

Each shot was between 0.8 to 3 seconds of exposure time depending on the light and the nature of the scene. I did not use an intervelometer - I used a regular trigger with a lock feature, and the photos were taken back to back using the continuous shooting mode. To be able to capture long exposures during day time I used a B+W 10 stop ND filter to stop down my exposures.

Location:
These photos were taken in various locations in Switzerland.
Geneva
Luzern
Montreux
and on the Train between Geneva and Luzern.

Hope you enjoy! This is my first serious effort into making a time lapse.

I'm happy to answer any questions and to hear any thoughts/critiques you may have.

  • Amazing! You did an excellent job. :-) I've been thinking about picking up the 24-105mm for my 7D....how do you like it?

  • @lisak78 I like the lens alot. The quality is ok. Not as good as some non L Prime lenses but its still great especially with the aid of IS. It has a very nice range too.

  • What software did you use?

  • @TheOats I used iMovie mainly. I think there were a few scenes i had to speed up more than iMovie would let me so i used FCP.

  • Hi! Very nice video - looks great! What's the shutter speed and interval for the pictures taken at 0:21 to 0:31 ?

  • @Zpurs Just checked the original images - each frame was a 2 second exposure at F4- the photos were taken back to back so there was no interval in between the images. I used a ND filter to be able to take 2 second exposures in broad daylight without overexposing. Thanks for leaving a comment!

  • That is fantastic i really enjoyed watching that and nice music choice to go with some outstanding photography.

  • Love it... Totally love it. I have the 600D and the standard lens but I will give this a go. I love the idea of making something practical during a train trip from Manchester UK to London one day. Thanks so much for sharing it.
