Plants have leaves and the leaves are solar panels. They draw in the suns energy. And the other thing that plants can do is suck in Co2 and separate the C from the O, release the O and take the C into its leaves, down into its roots. Now the process of manufacturing carbon in soil takes place when the plant is grazed and lets say the plant is grazed to half its height, which is healthy, and then left, the roots die back proportionally. And the detritus that they leave behind unlocks a frenzy of feeding and fecundity among the microbiological communities. There are cities and villages and nations and entire Star Wars of life forms that interact. Now thats only the beginning, because those when those leaves are left to grow out to their fullest extent, time, is our most important tool. Those new roots, for perennial plants, go down and piece through and open up the soil and and a magical thing happens. They start exuding fungus and other substances which wakes up those communities and we have another big party and the side effect of this party, apart from a hangover for some of the microbes, is soil carbon. And the more we allow this pulsing of root, the more soil carbon we get. So thats why weve got to allow the plants time to recover.
