Beautiful Horn: NYS&W 4054 "Susie-Q" leads NECR 324 South

NECR 324 South: NYS&W 4054 Susie-Q SD70M leads CSOR 8530 and a 46 car mixed manifest south through Cushman Corner in North Amherst. Listen to Susie-Q's beautiful horn approaching the crossings. I'd estimate the speed to be around track speed. This freight actually stalled on the hill going up to Belchertown. Not seen in the video is a friendly wave from the engineer as Susie-Q passes my spot.

Tip: Turn your volume up in the very beginning to hear the horn off in the distance.

This part of the line is continuous welded rail, but the maximum authorized speed from the north yard limits of Palmer to MP 162.2 is 55/40 regardless of whether a stretch is welded or jointed (provided permanent or temporary speed restrictions don't further limit speed).

@llokuta I have no idea about that area to be honest. The only time I've ever seen the Providence and Worcester is when they come up to New Hampshire on coal trains. I've never railfanned the NECR for that matter either. Not since I was a kid. The B40s and B39s can be found almost everywhere on the PW system, so you never know. During the week, you have better luck catching something.

@llokuta Oddly enough, four of them are now on the Providence and Worcester as their 4001-4004. They were originally NYSW 4004, 4008, 4006 and 4002 respectively.

@llokuta I knew the B40-8's where on lease, just didnt know how long. Ive heard Susquehanna's F45's with K5HR24's before, so I was just guessing. What did they come with when they got them new?

@Seaboard1321 No, the NYS&W B40-8s had K5Hs and were beautiful sounding. Alas, these units were on a 15 year lease and have been long returned to CSX.
