When Texas Congressman and former Republican presidential candidate Ron Paul speaks about transparency in the Federal Reserve, he sums up his argument with one simple question. Why not?

Why in the world should this much power be given to a Federal Reserve that has the authority to create $1 trillion secretly? Ron Paul asked a standing room-only crowd today at the Cato Institute.

Paul was on a panel of speakers, including Gilbert Schwartz, former associate general counsel to the Federal Reserve, to discuss a new bill that will audit the Fed for the first time in its history. This comes at a time when the Feds balance sheet has almost tripled, from just over $800 billion before the financial crisis to almost $2.3 trillion now.

We will only win when the people wake up and realize that transparency is what we need, said Paul. When we know exactly whats happening, there will be monetary reform.

  • Dr. Paul is making many statements about being suspicious about the Fed Reserve but with no specifics. Yes, it is good to audit them. But since Congress has been receiving all profits, but 6% dividends, the committee must know what the profits are. The Fed Reserve is backing banks from runs and stabilizing market ups and downs by controlling interest rates. Is this really bad? What would replace it? If we eliminated it, this would be like driving a car without auto insurance!

  • Finally. Someone who has a brain! I voted for Ron Paul...and that's a vote I was able to sleep at night with. I hope the Libertarian Revolution gains stream...it's time to get both the bum parties out! Dr. Paul is a RINO, I can live with that, but he needs to come home to the LP!

  • This is the person The republicans should have put on the ballot. McCain was such a weak candidate. If not for Palin I would never have voted for McCain.

  • Write your reps. Tell them to support audit the fed bill HR 1207.

  • We now have a Congress and president who seem to be deliberately running this country into the ground. If there's a choice, they make the worst possible one. And I think Obama is a fraud. The press knows it, and is covering for him. He produced a birth certificate the doesn't name the hospital, or the doctor, or the address of his parents. My Dad had a hard time getting his passport, due to a minor fault with his birth certificate. Obama provides one that wouldn't be good for a passport.

  • Expose the criminals!!!

"Congress and others were receiving too much benefit by a secretive federal reserve system".

    The Creature from Jekyll Island

    Awesome Ron Paul speech!!!

  • beautiful post
