Chris Isaak gave his acoustic guitar to Roly (bassist) and asked him to play "Killing the Blues." This is the song Alison Krauss and Robert Plant recently recorded. Apparently Roly wrote the song a while back but he won a Grammy for this recording. After that Chris pays respect to Roy Orbison with "Only the Lonely"

  • this is an amazing song it realy makes me look@the world around me and wonder just what the hell we are all doing here anyhow and what the hell for...the first time I heard this song was when my dad was passing away and I had just pulled out of my parents driveway onto the street... Dad had just said good by.......I will always remember you...love you love you love you....The Greatest Man on Earth.

  • @rvsteele NO, the best version EVER was by Shawn Colvin. Done way before Krauss and Plant.

  • The best version EVER of this song is by Chris Smither. No one else even comes close, including Plant and Krause.

  • OUCH!

  • I am the "Somebody". 1974 Paul came to see jc, his old gf. I hung out with him while they cleared up old issues. I had a dream and told him. My strange dream was put to music by Paul and Roland Salley (base player for Chris Issak). 80% of the lyrics are words I put to Paul. jc subdued my love too eventually. She now has an art studio in St.Petersberg Fl on the same street where John Prine has (had) a house. Shawn Colvin's version is my favorite. More of my words are on MySpace: buddyclaude

  • there's a guy Chris Smither sings this on his album " LIVE AS I'LL EVER BE" brilliant!!!!

  • Sorry, didn't mean to be so snarky. The song actually had a noble history before it was "discovered" by the stars. The album was a consort recording of what are now legendary figures from the Upstate NY folk scene: Happy & Artie Traum, Rory Block, Keith and Rooney, Pat Alger, John Sebastian, Paul Siebel, Paul Butterfield. But we all knew that "Killing" was the killer. It was picked up early by Shawn Colvin, John Prine, and Chris Smither, and now it's back again. But the original is still magical

  • The song is one of my favorites on Raising sand!

  • Alright then, I haven't heard that recording and don't know where I am supposed to "check it out" other than buying the thing which is hardly likely considering it being advised by one who thinks this was not godawful!

But I did check out the albums credits and this Rolley is only listed as playing bass. Not as doing any vocals!

Why don't you put up a video of his vocals on that album, let me know and I will check it out! I will gladly stand corrected on my opinion of this dude's singing! :)
