On January 9, 2009, two-time Indy 500 winner Arie Luyendyk, Sr. christened the new High Plains Raceway east of Denver.
He spent most of the day Friday taking laps around the track in a C6 Corvette borrowed from Michael Pettiford of Go4It Racing Schools.
Don't worry about checking his lap time ... although he was driving pretty fast, he still had passengers, and it was a cold day on DOT tires (Damn Old Tires!) This was just one random lap from among the dozens he took that day (but they were all smooth!)
While Arie was in town, he also spoke at the HPR fundraiser at the Mathews Collection, as well as the SCCA Annual Convention.
Arie joked that while the 24 Hours of Daytona was tough, the 48 Hours of Colorado was pretty tiring, too!
Thank you, Arie, for your generous time spent with us!
