You are wrong, at no point of the year do you want inside air to stay inside. Air does little to carry btu, and is something us humans kind of need, I like mine fresh. Ever been in a castle with the fire burning?Damn things will steam you out, with no doors to close, no windows to close, just as breezy as can be, but warm. If you filter your fresh air coming in, all you are doing is making people more likely to get allergies by raising them in a (clean room) enviornment. No filter actually removes the HARMFULL stuff like VOC, Pesticides, and other air pollutants(smells from turds). Ever seen a innocent old lady spraying a wasp nest on her only fresh air intake? This Dr. is helping her to kill herself. Good job. Will the energy you save ever pay for the ERV required? Hell no, want building advice? GO TO A BUILDER!

I would love to see a country full of tight homes like this derelict talks about. Teenagers bored on weekends instead of egging cars or dropping water balloons in convertables, they will be going around taking shits in homes only air intake. Reasons not to trust a mechanical ventilation system, one source of air, is easily tainted, no matter where you put it. I would love to throw a turd at this guys fresh air intake, see if he is still a fan after having to clean the entire duct EVERY time.
