I zested two oranges and used that for the last 15 min in this Denny Conn Rye IPA recipe that I made a few years ago and swore to make again. Man was it good. I did change things up a bit by using my homegrown hops in the brewing process along with store bought. But it tasted great when racking to secondary and I have good hope for this one.

  • Nice video! Just a quick question, did you experience any trouble when siphoning? I usually dry hop with pellets, but I will be using whole leaf for my next brew. I'm just a bit worried about filteration issues and the siphon getting clogged.

  • @graemeislord Good question. What I usually do is sanitize a small cloth hop bag and plastic twisty tie thing, and then put it over the end of the racking cane. This usually allows for a fine siphon, but keeps anything larger than the mesh holes in the cloth from getting into your keg/bottles. good luck.

  • Nice hops Don. question. How do you know when your hops are at peak? I have some nice Cascade's going but it's my first effort and I'm kind of lost.

  • There is a lot of info out there you can read, but they should be somewhat dry and "papery" feeling when squeezed. They may even just be starting to brown. Also, when broke open the lupulin glands should 1) smell like hops! and 2) be more of a deeper yellow to orange color instead of a lighter, pale yellow (but if they are deep orange, then you have waited too long).

  • dry hop a beer and it will thank you

  • this looks awesome man. Great job.

  • no not in the vid, in one of your responses you said something along the lines of the line, "well, thats just like, your opinion, man." haha

  • I just watched it again and I'm not sure what you are catching. Funny thing is, I'm a big fan of the movie and find Lebowski-isms creeping their way into my daily speech (much like Spinal Tap and the Simpsons) but I don't think I intentionally used any BL references in this video. Did I?

  • did I catch a Big Lebowski reference? haha

  • Num Yummy!

  • Thanks for the feedback Don. I've read a few things and continue to read up on the brewing whenever possible. So anyways, I picked one off the vine today. Smelled great and had a real light yellow color inside. My question now is, can they be ready to harvest at different times off the same vine? Thanks. Keep the vid's coming! They are more educational than most. You should actually put together a brewing series. who knows, could get yourself on the cooking network or something!
