I'm a rover guy, but those things are badass too.

@pete401 I'm going to look at a FJ40 that is for sale today in my area, my friend tipped me off about it, and I'm hopefully going to strike while the iron is hot, if it's in good enough shape, and the price is right.

Why is it rear drive only? WHY!

@phrawgg2 Rear wheel drive only? Huh? The Toyota FJ40 truck isn't a, "full time 4X4" truck. You select 2 wheel OR 4 wheel drive. The dyno is only a 2 wheel drive dyno.

@pete401 I'm suprised that some people don't know the difference between full time 4WD and seletable 4WD. Also, I really would like to own an FJ40, but have a question about V8 engine conversions. Are the reason for the conversion due to the need or desire for more power, or the rarity of engine parts for the original engines, or both?

@redmr2na A lot of people think the stock steel 4.2 2F motor is more than adequate. And i guess when fresh, they are. But my tired 2F was smokey. I looked at rebuild the 2F, but when compared to the alloy injected 350 5.7 LS1 motor. It was cheap, lighter, not to mention more powerful than the stock 2F. Sure I had to change engine mounts, bowl housing and a few other things. But it's cheaper to run than the 2F. So many more pluses. And the stock drive train handles the extra torque no problem. :)
