My papillons LOVE to eat sand. It makes them whine when they steam some sand logs but it's hard too stop them when they are wild and free at the beach.

Whoa, papillons are even quick on sand. Would've figured it would of made it tough to get decent traction.

Looks like he had a blast! Did he run in the salt water? If I'm not mistaken, my oldest brother was born in Portland; hope you had a nice visit to the beach.
