We all know kids play video games. But how much do they relax with console and PC games? Digital Journal TV examines a landmark report on what kids are playing, what benefits gaming offers, and why parents shouldn't be worried about teen gamers.

Digital Journal TV -- The stereotype of the loner gamer, disengaged from current events and shunning real-life friendships, is now old news thanks to a comprehensive report from the Pew Internet & American Life Project. Some unexpected facts pepper the report, which found that nearly every American teen has played video games on either a console or a PC.

The report found how teens enjoy video games: "Even when they are not playing games with others, teens talk and engage with others about games—by posting comments on discussion boards and websites or by writing reviews and walk-throughs that assist newcomers to a particular game by showing them how to play the game."

Many studies have shown a link between video games and violence, but the Pew survey aims to dispel some of the more media-friendly stereotypes about young gamers. Digital Journal TV highlights some of the key statistics, and we explain some of the positive influences gaming offers kids.

  • i've been playing video games since I was 4 but not like gta. I'm twelve now and I have played very violent games including GTA san andreas, but I am really freindly in real life and have lots of friends.the only time that Ive ever really been violent at a video game is when I play by my self. Sometimes its good for me to vent anger through video games when I'm alone

  • All I play is war games, and I always find little kids cursing and glorifying war, then I wonder, were are their parents and do they know what their kids are doing?

  • I've played video games since I was 4, which was 19 years ago. The number of digital beings I have hurt or maimed in that imaginary world is pretty substantial, but does that desensitize me to violence?

A few weeks ago I saw a small mammal get struck by a car, and came extremely close to throwing up. Violence in real life is a different matter all together, and we understand that.

  • I was thinking of showing this to my mom but the he started about beating up hoes

  • B4 I used to play games like NFS, Solitaire, Spiderman & GTA, Then I switched to FPS games like BF2, COD 4, COD MW2, BFBC2.... BF3 (Pre-ordered)

I found myself addicted to them, and my interest towards war and guns.......

Now after my 12th I am planin to join INDIAN ARMY :D

  • I've played video games all my life and have never felt anger about it even when playing violent video games i dont go out and falcon punch people lol. Im real open a little shy but i have lot of friends. It gives me a since of imagination and laughs when im playing with my friends. And when im upset i find it easier to become happy when im laughing with my friends over halo reach lol.

  • some gamers might find this interesting this girl in my state who is like 20-30 now had kids she let them stay at their cousins for a week they played fps the whole time and when they got back and they told her what games they played she looked up games that they played was as she said "disgusted" and banned them from watching violent TV playing any game violent or not and even forbid them from playing with toy weapons of any kind and then divorced by husband and he got the kids a weekend pass.
