2012 Subaru Impreza vs KIA Forte paddle shifting demo

( http://www.TFLcar.com ) It used to be that paddle shifters were an exotic technology on F1 Cars or exotic super cars but not anymore. Today you get paddle shifters on the entry level 2012 Subaru Impreza and the even the new KIA Forte. But not all paddle shifters are created the same. The Subaru comes with a CVT while the KIA has a standard 6 speed transmission...so how do both of these cars drive and shift with race car inspired transmissions?

Is there really a point of overdoing the gear change like you did @ 0:47, 1:30, 2:09 Mr."Lewis"? Keep your hands on the steering wheel, no need to put your hand hight into the air right after you changed a gear.

@qwertza124345 Actually there is a point...that being that there is no gear(s). It's a CVT and all that's happening is a band is moving up and down a cone....but only if the computer allows it. There is no way to damage the engine, the non-existant transmission, or the car. Computer says no.

Yea brand new car and not breaking in the engine right. Like not taking it easy for the first few thousand miles. Must be nice to beat up cars that aren't yours.

What is this paddle shifting crap? I'm thinking to trade in my car for 2012 Impreza premium Sport, so go and do a proper review.

Too bad the 2012 Forte hatch wasn't offered in manual ;/ Got discontinued after the 2011 model year, and even in the 2011 model year in order to get into a manual 5-door you had to have them ordered.

@irose1999 I did not trade in my car. We decided to wait for a year or two. I think that the Hybrid technologies will improve much faster. The Jetta Hybrid is coming soon.

I just did not want to spend $24K for a combustion engine only car.

The other reason why we decided not to buy is the plain interior. It is just too plain and uninspiring.

@skataz311 your right Kia's suck My friend's step dad had transmission problems early on with 2 of his, and my coworker had 2 sportages that sucked 4wd didn't work and died at like 90k.

Kia is a cheap low ball car meant to trick young people into buying Cheap new cars instead of decent used. its a dirty marketing trick.
