@bluegoose555 I blow the dust of your old comment and say this: Icon can be seen as an object of worship, a deliberate focus of attention (to mislead and capture) - so, in this spirit, tearing down these mesmerizing symbols may be a good thing indeed.

Latin Iconoclastes...from late Greek Othodox Church(725- 825 ad) which aimed at the destructon of religious images or sacred objects.
eikon icon (religious image) + klastes ..breaker..destroyer of religious images
now bastardised to mean one who challenges or attacks established principles, concepts etc..
