Holland used to be one of the greatest naval powers in the world and in particular during the 17th century. Unfortunately its navy has been reduced the last few years to a third ranking nation due to endless budget cuts. It's a shame it came to that point. We used to rule the world for some time, but what's happening now? No use looking back on a great past, we better spend more time restructering and expanding our armed forces instead of selling it all off!

@Sonicyoungster Explain....because you are full of it. The Dutch made their own wealth, Only our present day MONARCHY did like you said (they are Burgundy, French, German etc) and this Dutch Monarchy is only in power after the French in 1815!

BEFORE that we were a DUTCH Republic, looking after ourselves and taking advantage of the liberties we (as a pure Dutch people) enjoyed. We let in protestants(like other countries did) and benefited from our brother folk, the Flemish, some migrated

The Netherlands is a country assembled by a Burgundian, championed by a German, made rich by the Flemish, saved by the French, raised on freedom of religion and brought down by a war of religion by the descendant of the aforementioned German. Charles V, William of Orange, the 80-year war, the institution of the Bank of England and William III, respectively.
