From its extraction through sale, use and disposal, all the stuff in our lives affects communities at home and abroad, yet most of this is hidden from view. The Story of Stuff is a 20-minute, fast-paced, fact-filled look at the underside of our production and consumption patterns. The Story of Stuff exposes the connections between a huge number of environmental and social issues, and calls us together to create a more sustainable and just world. It'll teach you something, it'll make you laugh, and it just may change the way you look at all the stuff in your life forever. http://storyofstuff.org

And, for all you fact checkers out there, http://www.storyofstuff.org/2011/03/1...

The thing about computers only changing one chip is wrong, there is some truth in it, but there are valid reasons behind why you can't fit new processors in old motherboards, or new ram in old motherboards, or whatever.

Although she is pointing out a lot of flaws and she has to be oversimplifying a lot of issues, she does not give any alternatives. She mentions sustainability and equity, but gives no examples of how these can be employed. It brought my attention to these issues, but this video makes me lose hope rather than believe that this system can be changed..

Yes. I come from a country that has been around for over 3000 years, and has one of the richest lands in the world. In the last 20-30 years, the people living in that country(including my family) all left for "better economic opportunities" as the country attempts to become more westernized, and whoever can't keep up starves, or has to go elsewhere. Now, the majority of the people have left that country, and the remaining have no legal or financial means of getting out.

How about an intelligent, useful response rather than babble?

If we all took small actions we could create big change. For example, if everyone closed out their bank account and opened a credit union account today, big changes would happen immediately. The momentum would start. If people paid as much attention to real issues as they do "X-Factor" we could change the world. But we are too lazy as Americans.

Start by stop buying into the game. Let's start with the banking system ... go close your bank account out and open one at a local credit union. Stop watching TV and read alternative news sources like informationclearing house dot info/95% of mainstream news is owned by corporations! Stop listening to the advertisers telling us we need more stuff. Eat healthy so that you don't need to see a doctor as often if ever. Again, stop buying into the game and start with you and spread the word.

"see its not just resources that are wasted with this system, but people too. Even whole communities get wasted". Are we sure this is a reliable source?
