How to convert Mikeyssmail easy baby sweater to a Baby hooded pull-over

I noticed that I forgot to explain how to carry on with the sweater after you slip stitch it together. Do rounds to make the length that you like starting under one of the arm holes. I would do probably 8-10 rounds.

How did you do the "belly" part of the sweater as one piece? I tried before but it didn't look right..After I joined row 7 I ch 3, then dc to the end then joined with a sl slt, then repeat. The joined dc stuck out like a sore thumb :(
