@igh00001 that's because the full name of our country is NOT "United States", it is "United States of America", since America is part of the name, it's reasonable to use this as a demonym

why do people call them americans if any person from any other country like argentina or ecuador is american as well ?

@caigor then what would you call someone from the United States? A United Statesian? Yea, couldn't see that working out... We're the only country with "America" in the NAME, so I think it's fair to use it.. the people from those countries would have the demonym related to them, not their continent, of course :)
