In Europe wrestling/grappling technique prevailed over striking up till 20th century, from what I have read from historical sources.

@ringschule Have you got any members in Warsaw? I am moving out to Poland but to Warsaw and would love to find someone who practises medieval martial arts and yes I know Polish people hate Polish people from Warsaw :).
