King's Quest V for NES Video Walkthrough -Part 8

Final part of the King's Quest V walkthrough for NES. Show that evil wizard who's boss. Comments or questions welcome, as always

Commentary:

0:06 - Mordack teleports in to his badass bed to sleep. How do you get this to happen? You wait in the library. For a looooooooong time. It took 5 minutes of waiting before he showed up (I cut it). And, for the record, you are still subject to the random death here. This is the biggest BS part of the game.
0:30 - Kill him in his sleep? Nah. Let's just steal his wand.
0:41 - Graham's family is on that table in the foreground, but we can't do much about it now.
1:00 - This is kind of bizarre. Put Crispin's wand on one side...
1:25 - Mordack's wand on the other...
1:50 - And toss in the cheese! And now we wait...
3:10 - Oh, come on! That is bull! Whatever, we make a quick cut, and things are fine. Take the wand back.
3:50 - Hmm. Looks like Cedric finally did something useful. Naturally, if you don't save him, you find out now why it was probably a good idea to.
4:04 - Okay, he's a giant...flying...something. Time to bust out some magic of your own! Use the wand on yourself, and choose the tiger.
4:33 - A dragon! Time for some speed. Choose the rabbit spell.
5:13 - He's playing mean now. Not much can fight a snake except a mongoose or a tamborine. Well, Dink's got your tamborine, but lucky for you, Graham picked that mongoose spell up.
5:37 - Okay, he's desperate. This is the simplest puzzle you could get. Cast the raincloud, and enjoy the "exciting" ending. Huzzah!

I suppose that this is the one when Cedric gets turned into a statue by Mordack's weakened magic instead of dying like in the PC and other versions, right? This is the result of Nintendo of America's Video Game Content Guidelines, which didn't allow NES ports like this one to say "kill" or "die". Also, they toned down the violence, language and nudity and removed religious themes in this adaptation too.

@angeldeb82 No, he's turned to stone in the PC version too, there's really not much in the way of language in the original anyways, and (surprisingly) the harpys are as naked as ever, though there's no close-up. They did change Queen Icebella's punishment to being "locked in a cage", though.

why does the wand machine thingy have to take so long?? all the more frustrating when you have to do it over and over because he randomly kills you when its done.

good to know i played this game for hours to learn that a whole kingdom was saved because of a piece of moldy cheese.

@UsaSatsui Never mind. You're right all along. I'm mistaken. I found out: only the PC CD-ROM adaptation had Cedric get killed by Mordack's wand magic instead of being turned into a statue like in all other adaptations. Also, said CD-ROM adaptation had Mordack just leave Graham's family to rot instead of feeding them to Manannan in other adaptations. Sorry about that. My bad.

@JuicyPlayer It's great for NES graphics. The problem is, this should never have been on the NES. It's impressive they succeeded as well as they did.

I spent a good amount of time trying to think of a worse port. And no, I really couldn't think of one.

There's worse games by far, but this really is the worst adaptation of another game I've seen.
