  • Ian Bostridge seems to inspire some strong feelings on both sides of the fence. Wonder what that's about.

  • er wirkt durchaus angestrengt.

  • Anthony Rolfe-Johnson with Gardiner-forever!

  • I am a tenor, of similar voice, and I think I'm pretty objective, and I just don't see the beauty in this performance. Individuality, certainly. But his voice just doesn't seem to have any kind of ring. I love his lieder recordings for their expressiveness, but anything live just seems a little silly compared to singers like Polenzani or Paul Groves.

Yes that's really true. I have never read such gut emotional love and hate comments about a singer before. I love his performances but I understand why people do not. He is very precise and beautiful, but his voice lacks muscle and his interpretations do not have much emotional breadth. He did a masterful, stunningly poetic Winterreise in the Alden movie on Youtube. It's absolutely not to be missed.

  • no no no NO!

  • To little power in his voice on this one, with a full orchestra(sounds like an alto, some places..). His Erlkönig performance with the pianist was outstanding though!

I think its because Haydn and Mozart in some schools are considered to be sung light and "above" your voice..

  • His voice is a little too light and graceful for my tastes. Nice interpretation however...just not for me

  • @ilkertenor

you might want to invest a little time in actually learning anything about classical music before calling yourself a tenor, this statement of yours clearly shows you don´t know jack.

  • perfect. people complaining are just people looking for technical perfection who cant see the beauty in his voice and music.

  • es ist verblüffend, je öfter ich ihn höre desto besser wird er
