Asian protests at Olympic start in Beijing

Protesters take to the streets across Asia, coinciding with the opening of the Beijing Olympics, pressing China on the human rights issue.

Tibetan refugees and their supporters clashed with police in Nepal as they tried to storm the Chinese consular office.

There were more peaceful pro-Tibet demonstrations held in India, Taiwan and Hong Kong. China has claimed that followers of the exiled Tibetan spiritual leader, the Dalai Lama, carried out riots and protests across the remote mountain region in March in a bid to spoil the opening ceremony of the Olympics.
