Senior Recital featuring Catherine Garner on piano
December 2, 2006
at ECU Fletcher Recital Hall

Song composed by Purcell
Lyrics:

If music be the food of love
Sing on
'til I am filled with joy
For then my listening soul you move
to pleasures that can never cloy
Your eyes
Your mien
Your tongue
declare that you are music everywhere

Pleasures invade both eye and ear
So fierce the transports are they wound
And all my sense feasted are
though yet the treat is only sound
Sure I must perish
by your charms
unless you save me in your arms

  • For a next time, take a good posture, this one is ugly, and use your air. Sorry for the critics

  • @macsitou Meh, this was years ago, so the critics don't bother me as much. It would be nice for people to offer constructive criticism instead of just writing variations of "you suck," but that might be expecting too much. :)

As for your comment, I knew my posture sucked. I replied to one comment already explaining that this is the 1st song on the program and because of a situation beyond my control, I was really upset before we started.

  • @SarahDavisSings Oh I forgot about this comment, it was 11 month ago! I'm sorry I didn't mean to treat you performance of sucks if that what you think it mean. I hope you have gotten better! Thanks for the comprehension.

  • @macsitou Oh, I didn't take it that way! I thought you meant not to worry about some of the harsh criticisms I have gotten on this vid. No worries!

  • i feel you have way too much virbratto....its kinda overpowering cuz sometimes you go a little sharp and sometimes it sounds like youre trilling...unless you meant to trill lol. also your vowels are very piercing at times. round out those vowels and decreaseyour virbratto a tad and you will see a grat difference. your tone is a beautiful tone and you have excellent control. its a great performance nonetheless. good job :)

  • Needs a bit more annunciation, I think.

  • @singndance4evr In this style consistent vibrato is very appropriate. The problem is that her vibrato is very wide, which is why she sounds to you like she's trilling or sharp.

  • I like your rendering very much, with the youngness still in your voice. I think your posture too is quite natural for someone of the age that you were then. I hope you've kept on with your singing.

  • @AlessanteFurioso Thanks! Your comment about nerves was dead on. This was the first song on the program and I had had an awful morning. Let's just say that I almost arrived late to my own recital through no fault of my own. So, my normal composure was shot. I think I settled down as the program went on though.

  • I think you have a very pleasing tone, the extra vibratto could be just nerves - it takes a lot of them to get in front of all those people and sing. Purcell is also tricky to sing, I myself struggle with him, though find Lully a breeze. You have a great foundation to be a great singer -- don't let all the 'nay-sayers' spoil your dreams. :)

  • I think your voice is good and you have the potential definitely! However there were many problems with this performance, stance is key!I often find in singing one foot slightly behind the other, like a ballet dance almost, helps you to lift to the top notes. It also makes you look elegant. It sounds as if you aren't using your diaphragm properly, well you must! It is so important in singing,I would advise a decent singing teacher who teaches in the Italian methods of Marchesi.Good luck in all you do

  • @teonaize I wouldn't want to be. Too much responsibility.
