Me performing Kenpo's Long Form 1. This is a Kata taught to those learning Purple Belt, and the first Tournament Kata. This is one of two Kata's I will be performing with in my first Tournament September 26, at the 2009 CMA Open. I will be Yellow Belt for the Tournament.

As soon as I knew there was a tournament, Sensei Roe asked if I was competing. I agreed to, and then starting learning the two forms that I have never seen performed before. Haha. So bear in mind, this is me knowing the Kata for less than a month!

Bear in mind that this was done in my sisters apartment. She is on the second floor, and the walls are thin, so I did not give many Kyai's like I wanted. The weather was not permitting me to go outside and do it. Haha.

This Kata has been edited by my Sensei to remove the Check Blocks, as in tournament it looks as if one is hesitating. Sensei Roe edited to allow for a better grade, and more dynamic blocks and strikes.

If you see any flaws in my Kata, please let me know! :)

  • Gotta admit, you are cute. Other than that, stick with your training and you WILL improve. Ignore the criticizing idiots. I seriously doubt that they're any better. You're only a yellow belt now, you're not supposed to be an expert yet. Sheesh...

  • @typhon3808 I'm actually a Purple now. :) I probably would have gotten by Blue already if not for the birth of my son, haha. Thanks for your kind words. :)

  • Nice work

  • wow not bad :)

  • Good work. Continue to train hard ! But, just don't make your face killer at the end ^^!

  • I do commend you on your efforts. I would like to see an updated post to see the corrections the you instructors have advised you to do.

  • I do

  • Subscribed. Great job. I really enjoy being part of the Tracy Kenpo system. Very effective and the kata (forms) have a purpose. You can easily visualize where the attacker(s) is/are and what needs to be done next to defend against that attacker. With time and practice everyone gets better at their form. You seem to have the basic motions of Long 1 down, now it's time to perfect them!

  • looking this

    from chile!! bow!!

  • heeyy Courtenay.., u're quite good

and as Typhon3808 said, we just got 2 options:

1.- Kick Every Single Ass from Every Single fault-finder out there in order to demostrate that American Kenpo isn't a Game at all

2.- Let Them Say Whatever; But don't lend any help to that kind of people who sometimes attempt to discriminate against other people like us just by the fact that people like us wanna make a difference between being the bullied one and the self-defender; Keep Going! =D Keep It Up! =D

  • There is absolutely no reason to be critical of this young lady. It takes courage for a brand new karateka to post a video on Youtube. I have studied Matsubayashi Shorin Ryu and Kenpo for over 30 years (I was a student at one time of Jay T. Will) I admire the young lady for submitting herself to criticism and the ridicule that comes with posting such items.

Courtenay please keep up your hard work and training. Pray you never are called upon to defend yourself and train as if it is inevitabl
