While the riving knife is very useful, it bears mentioning that this fence, as good as it is for cutting sheet stock, is not intended for ripping solid lumber. Any attempt to guide or control the stock relative to the fence AFTER it has passed the center of the blade is a waste of energy, at best, and an invitation to kickback at worst. A short, removable ripping fence will prevent binding.
If you can find a copy of Ian Kirby's tablesaw book, get it and read it.

Kick back happens as a result of only three things, #1 pinching the blade in the kerf cut, #2 not keeping the stock tight against the fence, #3 the kerf closing during the cut due to stress in solid wood. The most important safety device in relation to operating a table saw is not your safety glasses (so tired of hearing about safty glasses) but rather the much overlooked splitter/riving knife. With that single device along with proper technique, your odds of experiencing kick back are nil.
