I cannot believe she got a 6 - her fluency was very strained in both attempts and full of repetitious stuttering and grammatical mistakes throughout. To me that was a 5.

@nblumer Thanks for your comment.

When Harriet took her IELTS test, the examiner must have thought that she only made occasional hesitations and that the grammar mistakes she made rarely caused comprehension problems.

The examiner would have also have made his/her decision to give Harriet a band score 6.0 based on the whole speaking test not only Part 2.

Harriet took the IELTS test a couple of weeks before we recorded this video and got a 6.0 for her speaking.

One thing I didn’t mention on the video was how willing Harriet was to talk about a topic she wasn’t familiar with. When you watch the video, notice how Harriet starts by saying she doesn’t often watch sports events but she does remember a volleyball game she watched.

To get an IELTS band score 6, it’s important to show the examiner you are willing to speak at length.
