You never left middle school. I don't like PETA, but killing a cat is better than giving it a flesh wound from a gun. Blow your arm off, see how it feels. Die quickly rather than die painfully. They don't learn a lesson if they die.
I do appreciate what you've done for your kitten though. That's extremely good of you. I do hope you kept it.

street/stray animals do encounter alpha members of their own kind and terrirories conflict. your teen mind doesnt even think cats and dogs have a sort of society. heck even squirrels encounter worse beatings on each other.
so dont think its a harmonious disneyland thing for all animals, even with their own kind.
next is that a small bb hit may hurt a while but compare to beatings they get from others of their kind, survivable.

I mean killing animals for pleasure is sick and obviously a symptom of psychological problems but killing animals humanely for food or flesh wounding them to get them out of your area isn't. Plus it makes them stay away from your place, cos cats have a good memory.
