Australian PM Julia Gillard Warns About Doomsday Apoclypse

Julia Gillard has recorded a tongue-in-cheek video address to the nation warning the world is about to come to an apocalyptic end, as predicted in the Mayan calendar.

In the 55-second spoof clip, recorded for Triple J radio, Ms Gillard addresses her "remaining fellow Australians" warning of zombies, hell beasts and a K-pop armageddon.

With an emotionless delivery, the prime minister says the end of the world is coming not because of Y2K, or even the carbon tax, but "it turns out the Mayan calendar was true".

"Whether the final blow comes from flesh-eating zombies, demonic hell beasts or from the total triumph of K-pop, if you know one thing about me it is this: I will always fight for you until the very end," Ms Gillard says.

"And at least this means I won't have to do Q&A again."

The message was recorded to promote Tom and Alex's "End of the World" radio show, which is set to air at 6am AEDT on Friday morning.

In an interview with ninemsn, Tom Ballard joked the message was "not scripted" and that Ms Gillard was "panicked and worried" at Triple J's prediction of a doomsday coinciding with their Friday morning radio show.

"Knowing us and knowing our ratings, she knew we would flog the video to death so we kept our end of the bargain," he said.

The radio pair would not reveal how they coaxed the prime minister into making the video or whether there was anything she would not say.

"Hypothetically, if this was a scripted video, the Prime Minister would have changed a few things to add some of her own jokes into the script," Ballard told ninemsn.

Ms Gillard has had some viral video success in recent months, making worldwide news with her parliamentary speech blasting opposition leader Tony Abbott for "misogyny".

Those who believe the Mayan calendar predicts the end of the world say the apocalypse will come on 21 December.

Other than the fact she was a lawyer, became a member of parliament, served in the opposition and helped Kevin Rudd to an astounding victory, then toppling him to become Australia's first female prime minister and going on to secure the support of the Independents and in the face of sexism, abuse and powerful opponents, she passed the carbon tax which has not hurt anyone.
