Haha, it's real time. The thing about good versions of Tetris (Like Tetris DX) is they allow you to make adjustments after the block has touched, unlike the original which glued itself in place upon contact, making it impossible past certain levels. It's all about reading the next piece :]

This is probably based on Tetris DX where once a block is placed you can rotate it for a split second. It allows for some sneaky arrangements that wouldn't be allowed by falling into place.
