Sport program

On the 11th and 12th of April 2009, Terra Inc volunteers Joost and Marleen assisted the Pataxó community of Pé de Monte to organize a sport weekend for more than 200 Pataxó youth`s from 6 different homelands.

The event took place on the sportfield Luiza, in the shadow of the Monte Pascoal ,and consisted of a combination of sport, nature preservation, and cultural presentations (traditional song and dance)

Even tough everyone had to endure long walks, rain and mud the first day, the weekend was a big success.

Sport`s consisted of 3 football competitions, volleyball, frisbee, traditional and international games for children.

Nature preservation lessons were taught by a Pataxó teacher, which concluded his lesson with the planting of a tree by all participating children.

The day was concluded with a cultural dance ``battle`` by all participating Pataxó homelands, from which the homeland of Boca da Mata went home with the prize.

All activities were carried out by volunteers from the Pataxó community of Pé de Monte, and 6 native culture teachers from participating reserves.

The event was sponsored by Joost and Marleen in honour of their recent marriage!!
