Congressman Ray LaHood at an American Legion event outside Peoria, Illinois. Big words for the TV cameras, but unwilling to speak to the mother of a soldier on tape and unwilling to address the war with the public.

  • I'd be put-off by a camera too. I'm all for transparency in govt, but we know how easily a random exchange can be sensationalized into national news or be misused during a campaign.

Its just odd when someone wants to talk to you about something personal, but they have a camera there.. its kind of contradictory, so it creates suspicion about their intent.

That said, he totally could have been appeasing you. He should have given his card and told you to come by his in-state office.

  • When the war was but a month old LaHood went on local Peoria radio and talked about where to get the best steak in Washington DC.

  • Another Reagan Republican throws in the towel because his party is being driven into the dirt by the religious crazies:

(AP) "The Democrats will continue to be the majority party in the House and Senate and Hillary Clinton will make history by being the first woman president" in 2008, predicts Rep. Ray LaHood, one of three Illinois Republicans to announce his retirement so far.

What makes LaHood's prediction stand out is his willingness to say it publicly.

  • great job iraq summer. great job dari. i am proud of you both.

  • Ray LaHood, poor man, just another shill for the neoconservatives, Rubber Stamp Ray. Great job in speaking with him. If Ray has a conscience he will reexamine his stance on the war. He's leaving office, there is no better time, however, if he wants a lobbyist job in D.C., and does not change his stance, he only proves he does NOT give a damn about the troops. He will answer your letters, as he has done mine, but his position is a mirror image of the White House.

  • Great job! Thank you for all you do!
