Well, hope or not, he is not pragmatic and is thus ineffective. Has a remarkably small body of accomplishment over a very long career; frankly I think many libertarians have overrated him just out of the fact that he is one of the very few who still supports a Gold standard.
While many legislators have very effectively done things to shrink government or curb its growth (Tom Coburn, Michelle Bachmann, Mike Pence all come to mind).

Hmm, you make a good point about him not working with other members of Congress to shrink the size of government. I never thought about it that way. Nevertheless, I don't think he's completely ineffective or that he is a "laughing stock" as you put it. You are entitled to your opinion. I still think he's admirable in that he has not given up his hopes of shrinking the government.

He is a top porker in congress, hard to play libertarian while failing to shrink government and putting a lot of local spending on the federal credit card, don't you think?
The Wilberforce example actually demonstrates what is wrong with Paul, Wilberforce was effective because he worked with individuals with other agendas and used circumstances such as piracy in his favor. Ron Paul is so narrow minded he just has to settle for letting government grow and grow while he helps it spend and spend.
-
He could have done a lot, but he has not because he insists to excessively earmark while being unable to understand how to successfully legislate reform. Individuals who do not claim to be libertarians have done more to shrink government. Ron Paul is laughable ineffective and is a laughing stock, this is sad for me as I do admire anyone as passionate as he is for shrinking government. I more than almost anyone would like to see him succeed instead of fail on most domestic policy.

As for the "ton of pork," I think that's a bit exaggerated. What if your neighborhood was destroyed by a hurricane? Wouldn't you want your congressman to get you some money?
-
We know he didn't successfully shrink the government. That doesn't mean we give up. He's persists at it and seems like he's not giving up. Just because he hasn't passed many laws doesn't mean he's an ineffective legislature. William Wilberforce was the only member in Parliament who wanted to ban slavery until it was finally passed after 20 years of trying. No offense but that's some poor judgment on your part.
-
What about his earmarks? Is inability to be an effective legislator other than getting a ton of pork for his district? Never successfully shrunk government, but really good at spending YOUR money on HIS district. Not the libertarian I would throw my weight behind.

What they did not tell you is that parole took place years later after Huckabee had refused commutation four different times. Complaint of his alleged involvement took place years after that during a political campaign just after Huckabee had refused to have one of two of the Clinton appointed parole board members return to their position.

Huckabee is not lying. He is not perfect but he's sure as close as we'll get! This guy has a proven record of going great things fro Arkansas, working across party lines to get things done and getting re-elected twice. He STILL has a 65% approval rating in Arkansas (those who know him best). If John McCain is smart and wants to win he will have a McCain/Huckabee ticket.

I saw huckabee speak in person yesterday in SC. He is an incredible public speaker. He spoke for an hour and never said "uhh" or "ummm". Pay attention to the way the other candidates speak. Is that important? I think so. Count how many times Hilary Clinton says "uuhhh". Mike's extremely sharp. Very powerful to see him in person. He's got my vote tomorrow in SC.
I like this guy, honest. I hope I get the chance to vote for Huckabee in 08. He's one of the good guys.
