From Spanish film Cria Cuervos (1976) - film intro & classic song - Por Que Te Vas

A beautiful song in a beautiful film - Por Que Te Vas is a song that achieved a lot of publicity and fame thanks to the film's success. Cria Cuervos, made by Carlos Saura is a tale of a little girl called Ana. But figuratively, the character of litle Ana (and her siblings) represent the youth of the country of Spain under the dictatorship of General Franco - where Franco is represented by her father while her late mother played by Geraldine Chaplin represents the uncared for Spain under a selfish ruler.

Fantastic film, full of symbolism representing Spain in the final years of Franco. The house represents Franco's Spain - it's old, falling down with an empty swimming pool. For me the most telling lines are when Ana often says "Quiero que te mueras" - said to her aunt but it is really the emerging young Spain saying it to the old dictator.

One of my favourite movies ever. It gets under your skin: childhood, memories, great music, and the kids all too cute, especially Ana. Buy the movie, it's more than worth. Another masterpiece with Ana Torrent: " The spirit of the beehive" by Victor Erice (Spain).
