It's true, you should use any stick that feels comfortable in your hands. I, for one, prefer M-Dawgs, by Murray Gussek, but everyone's got their own preference. It's best to make sure both of your sticks are the same note though.

I used Jeff Queen solo sticks, and Ralph Hardimon sticks when I recorded all my solos.
You should use whatever feels good to you.
