Made from 1/8", 1/4", and 1/2" Baltic Birch plywood stained with cherry colored stain and clear polyurethane.
Adjustable tension hinges and zinc latches were bought from Amazon.com (from Reid Supply Company). Hinges item# SC-773; latches item# NSH-2041.
All other hardware bought from local Ace Hardware store.
The palette has 1/8" acrylic layered over the grey painted wood and value scale.

  • The t-nut is something I didn't know about but it seems like the ideal part of the setup I was looking for. I'll let you know how it turns out. Thanks for the info.

  • @jjredner Thanks for the comment! I drilled a hole through the bottom of the box and inserted a 1/4"-20 T-Nut (the size matched my tripod mount screw). The T-Nut is a female threaded nut with spikes which allow it to stick into the wood of the box. Insert the T-Nut from the inside of the box so the tripod can't pull it out. Once installed, screw the tripod's mounting screw into the T-Nut. Good luck.
