I have never heard this song sung with the soul and passion of Tom Jones. I saw him sing it on his weekly television program, and it knocked everyone out, it just stopped the show. When they asked David Crosby of Crosby, Stills and Nash who he thought had the most powerful voice he ever heard, he replied, "Tom Jones. Definitely, Tom Jones."

@MrPatch71 Yeah, right. Say that to Elvis Presley who designated Tom as the The Voice!

The best of all versions, especially with the blues in it ... all the others, from Andy Williams, to Roy Orbison, to Johnny Cash to Mario Lanza, are just to week in comparison.

Fantástico disco! excelente voz e interpretación!!!

lyrics are by, Frederic Weatherly, an Englishman, who never stepped foot in Ireland,
The tune, Londonderry air,was collected by Jane Ross, not written by her, there must be a hundred sets of lyrics written to the air ,mainly hymns and 'you raise me up' is also based on it
beautiful tune/lyrics regardless where it comes from, probably one of the few Anglo-Irish collaborations that have worked lol

This song was written by Jane Ross from Limavady Co Derry N Ireland. The lyrics were by Jimmy Mc Curry or Denis O Hempsey from Limavady or Garvagh respectively. That's for sure!

The music was written by Jane Ross who hailed from Limavady Co Derry N Ireland, just a walk away from me., it was worded by (disputedly) either blind fiddler Jimmy Mc curry or harpist Denis O Hempsey of Limavady and Garvagh respectively. Soor Engalnad this is one that you definitely can't lay claim to!
