I have to apologize. This was terrible hymn playing on my part. It was too fast. There was no breath between phrases further into the video. Worst of all, I didn't allow a breath between stanzas. Please, don't be inspired to play hymns like this! I was listening to another organist who had recorded this play it, and this organist also made many of the same mistakes. So, my apologys.

The button pushed at the beginning is the 'Wedding Signal Light'. When pushed in the Narthex, it makes a light come on, on the console.
On my previous account, I had a few requests to improvise, so I decided to improvise an interlude, then tag the end of the piece.

HAPPY CHRISTMAS!!!

  • Nice playing and very nice organ what kind is it?

  • It is an Austin organ.

  • Wow, Five Star ***** playing there young man.

Instead of playing Christmas Eve myself, I could only wish I could be in the church listening to you.

  • The fact is, I don't hold a position in a church. On Christmas Eve, I will be doing to listening.

  • Fun, energetic, free. I love it.

  • My gosh I thought you were a grown person, I'm no expert but you blew me away!

  • @pipeorganistken I agree totally, but he could continue to perform on Pipe Organ as well. Don't steal a young potential for the Christian church we need more professional PIPE organ players for the CHURCH! Not Hammond player, nor Wurlitzer Theater Organ player but Skinner, Austin, Allen, Rodgers, Classical pipe organ player. Hope you agree

  • I agree everything you said as you examined your errors. Because you did this I will listen to anything you play forever. I've done this many, many times. The worst critic for an organist is SELF! That's the beginning of improvement in playing. Keep up the good work!

  • again....awesome job !!!

    amaaazing!

  • Once again, I am speechless. I think you should meet two organists here in Tallahassee. One is the organist and choirmaster of my church (first presbyterian), the other is the organist at another presbyterian church in town (and a grad student at FSU) who you remind me of. They would be amazed. Also, have you ever played on a tracker action organ (mechanical stop and key movement)?

  • Absolutely loved this!

  • The improvisation was excellent. Pedal melody was a nice touch. Have you tried writing down some variations on hymn tunes? That would be a first step toward composing, which you should definitely pursue.

Another fun thing in improvising on hymn tunes is to play the melody in the pedal and then play accompanying chords or melodic figures in the hands, using alternative harmonies.

  • Excellent it sounds great!! Keep up the good playing!! Do u have a myspace page?
