  • just curious..

looks to me like its a compound setup, but no coolers?

im currently working on a twin charge setup myself, (Totaly diff engine and car,) and aiming for compund boost setup, but cant figure a good way to cool the air from both turbo and SC without an ugly mass of piping...

I was wondering what kinda temps is that thing hitting?

  • @Lynium ; Over in the passenger corner of the engine bay is a water to air intercooler from Corky Bell. 9"x9"x 4.5" It works great and it keeps the piping manageable and the water gives me a lot of heat capacity for autocross. Intake temperatures are usually ambient plus 15 degrees. If you wanted to use an ice box of course you could have colder air.

  • if im gonna twin charge, i go with the vortech supercharger, not jackson supercharger. the blades in the jackson supercharger may restrict some air while in high speed since turbo is pushing air in.

  • @imports247 -- how has that plan worked out for you? Link me some goodness... I've yet to see that be successful for some very good reasons.

  • DAMN! your tranny must hate you. Which raises the question, what tranny do you use? Dogbox, shep stage 4, TRE what?

  • @RedFuryXIII -- It's a stage 4 EVO III gearset that has been shot peened. So far so good, but I don't really beat on it on drag radials. As others have pointed out, a single turbo setup is better for that, but this pulls from a much lower rpm.

  • more videos please, looks like it could be a torq monster.

  • WHAT THE HOT DOG!! how do you cool all that?

  • is that a hotpipe?

  • @imports247 my idea....have the centrifugal supercharger and a massive ass turbo....and have the supercharger just to spool the turbo up quicker

  • Totally.... Totally solved my Xcross problems... Why didn't i see.... MMMMMMM torque

  • no bov? how does that work out

  • @lynel1985 My mistake, with the setup I described I should have said that the supercharger is used for low RPM boosting with an electromagnetic clutch that disengages at an RPM suitable enough for positive pressure from the turbocharger and to prevent over-pressurizing the cylinders. Now the physical size of the turbo isn't the issue it's the pitch of the turbines along with the chambers air flows through that will determine how quickly it can pressurize. (great point about exhuast heat!)

  • dont supercharge, you are loosing power at the crank and limited to output. twin t83's

  • @justincerveny im lead to believe the purpose a twin charged setup is to use the supercharger as low down as possible to enable the use of a bigger turbo to come onto boost at lower rpm. Revs arent the real reason a turbo spools, its heat and exhuast gas mass, which would be larger the quicker the supercharger started making boost, as close to idle as possible.
