Funny, this is by far my favorite EVH solo even without the tapping.....and I have heard _ALOT_ of Eddie guitar over the years since '83.
EVH, always and forever my guitar idol.

Never mind about Noyd, just civilized opinions from here on out. Great solo, I might cover it someday when I get better.

So this is the prototype to "Eruption". It's very impressive and a nice find. Too bad Adnoydall has to be a troll on par with Justin Beiber and Uwe Boll for over 40 pages. For the Record, I prefer David Gilmour but Eddie is still a guitar hero.

@wseeback I think its interesting how a difference of about 5 years can really change someone's knowledge of rock. I was playing in a punk/alternative band recently with people about your age who did not live through the 80s who had no sense of what was going on then either in the kind of metal Van Halen and other Americans did (other than thrash) and no clue that there was even underground American hardcore punk rebelling against that at the same time, let alone UK postpunk. Big diff in view.

@Adnoydall I am not sure that the purpose of Van Halen was to tell epic stories like Zeppelin. In fact, I see them as both influenced by Zeppelin and a reaction to them. If we think of Zeppelin's epics as related to progressive rock seriousness, Van Halen wanted just the opposite: reckless fun. Any time spent contemplating would have ruined their party. I am not saying it is good or bad, I am just saying the bands served different purposes for different audiences at different times.

@Fido456 I'd say this an "excellent template to cut loose with" to see if, when, where and how ideas might come. Whatever helps, I just couldn't dedicate my life to this one kind of style

@IntoVariety247 id agree. i hated eddies guitar playing later on, especially with sammy. it really has a popish atmosphere which i didnt like. As for the greatest solo of all time i dont really have One that id pick out. but i really did love some of the hendrix live solos and stairway was Great too but i certainly would have a problem saying what the best solo would be. For now i love this solo. ive learnt it but certainly still have to work out the unorthadox timing this solo has to offer.

there's no question that Eddie was/is a monster guitarist and he paved the way for a thousands of players with his tone and style. but as for ajaxrules1975's that one would be awestruck seeing him after that list of (mostly) great axemen I have to say that moment happened to me when I was 13 and saw my first Hendrix concert. It literally changed my life. saw him twice again before he died. for the next 5 years I rarely put my guitar down. many's the night I'd fall asleep with it. memories
