Here is a satisfying method of removing Aptasia from your saltwater reef aquarium's live rock. This assumes that you are able to easily remove the live rock from the tank. However, it isn't very effective. The aiptasia will release spores when threatened and within a few months the aiptasia took over my tank. I ended up using Aiptasia-X to get rid of them for good.

May the Aiptasia rest in ashes.

You can read more about this process on my blog here: http://www.extreme-aquatics.com/saltwater/aiptasia-glass-anemone-removal/

Burning the crap out of the little devil brought me a great deal of satisfaction. My mushroom corals had been vindicated.

  • Effective my ass. You should rename this video shitty aipsta removal method

  • @my89tube You are right. The aiptasia took over the tank after that little experiment. I finally got rid of them by using Aiptasia-X on them when they got out of hand. However... it was fun to try the Death by Fire method.

  • The reason i watched this vid was i saw a pic of you killing aptasia with a torch lol. I was here to warn you that its a bad idea! But i guess you see that for yourself already hahaa

  • @bramzt12 It was a very bad idea! The aiptasia exploded after that event, but I'm happy to report that the tank has been Aiptasia free for over 6 months now due to Aiptasia-X and a very satisfied peppermint shrimp.

  • Hope the aiptasia is all gone now

  • @seoul4845 They multiplied 100 fold after that. something about them spitting out babies when they are threatened. I ended up using Aiptasia-X on them and so far I haven't seen any more in the tank.

  • Aiptasia reproduce by pedal laceration or longitudinal/ transverse fission, not spores. They even have their own separate sexes!

  • A copperband butterfly will get rid of all the aiptasia issues in your tank!

  • get a peppermint shrimp. Aptasia it their favorite food.

  • If you could remove the rock from water because nothing else grows on it, you could simply boil it rather then trying fire-thrower, dynamite and nuclear attacks. But it's certainly fun to watch :)

As for Aiptasia, kalkwasser paste did the trick for me.

  • @my89tube

    amen !

  • The single method that i did that worked for me is super glue or crazy gluing those suckers. Completely smother them in the glue. They can't spread and they can't move. Problem solved. I did this with my tank months ago and not a single one has showed in my tank ever since! I highly suggest it.

  • @eXtremeAquatic Yeah if they didnt explode and release all those bastard spores then it would be pretty fun to light all these little fuckers up

  • haha that was awesome dude, take the torch to your nemesis.
