Look out, Academy Awards, the first trailer for Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close has arrived.
Based on the acclaimed novel by Jonathan Safran Foer, Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close is the story of a son (Thomas Horn) who lost his father (Tom Hanks) in the tragic attacks on 9/11 and takes a long journey through New York City searching for the lock box that fits a key his father left him.
The movie has "potential Oscar winner" written all over it. Besides the moving story, the adaptation boasts a script from Academy Award--winning screenwriter Eric Roth (Forrest Gump), direction from Stephen Daldry, who has been nominated for nearly every movie he has ever directed (Billy Elliot, The Hours, The Reader), and the presence of Academy Award--winning actors Hanks and Sandra Bullock. Daldry even planned to open Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close on the tenth anniversary of the 9/11 attacks, but instead the movie will open at the end of the year, likely for a greater chance at Oscar consideration.
Extremely Loud & Incredibly Close tells the story of one young boy's journey from heartbreaking loss to the healing power of self-discovery, set against the backdrop of the tragic events of September 11. Eleven-year-old Oskar Schell is an exceptional child: amateur inventor, Francophile, pacifist. And after finding a mysterious key that belonged to his father, who died in the World Trade Center on 9/11, he embarks on an exceptional journey — an urgent, secret search through the five boroughs of New York. As Oskar roams the city, he encounters a motley assortment of humanity, who are all survivors in their own ways. Ultimately, Oskar's journey ends where it began, but with the solace of that most human experience: love.
