Teammates react to Mats Sundin's retirement

September 30, 2009 - Friends and former teammates react to Mats Sundin's retirement from professional hockey after 18 seasons.

Thanks for all the memories, captain. It was ultimately your timely goals and unvarying high level of play that attracted me to the game, making me become not only the rabid Leafs fan that I am today, but also the rabid hockey fan. So, thank you, and I wish you the very best in retirement. It's a real shame that a player of your calibre never won the Cup.

But i have to say even though Toronto Maple Leafs are HABS rival team and i hate them i always had respect for Mats Sundin, leader on and off the ice,

BEst Captain Of LEaf History. Amazing, and always was there when we needed him, too bad we never spent some money and got him some REally good players to surround him with, then we coulda got a cup. We'll all miss you mats. your the man

It feels so weird! He has always been there and played in both Toronto and Tre Kronor (national tem) year after year and suddenly he's not. I have been growing up seeing him play and all. It's just feels weird.

Yeah i meant in the NHL and i know that forsberg has a better Game ratio but still both of them are really good

@LegOmniuswhat? sundin only played in the Swedish elite league for a year (18pts) while peter played for 7 years (over 100 pts). if you're talking about all time points in the nhl, yeah, sundin did get more points than forsberg, but only because forsberg was injured so much by foot problems. forsberg has a much better pts/game ratio than sundin. plus forsberg won 2 cups, an art ross, a hart, and calder trophy with the avalanche. don't get me wrong,sundin was great but forsbergs game was complete

@thundercatshoooo Ya i hope so too. i don't think there is anyone else who deserves it more than Koive right Now. He has proven his worth as a player in the NHL, thru all his hardships he has prevailed and he's just the best.

As much as i hated the Leafs, i always respected Sundin and I wish for his sake that he would've won a cup too.
