A video of the first flight of the Terrafugia Transition. First flight occurred on March 5th, 2009 at Plattsburgh International Airport in Plattsburgh, NY.

The Transition is a roadable aircraft, or a street-legal airplane. Simply land at the airport, fold your wings up, and drive home. More information can be found at http://www.terrafugia.com

  • Imagine how cool you'd look driving a plane on a highway.

  • Being that this was THE first test flight of the prototype craft, it's logical to assume they decided to keep it low at first to get a feel of the controls and flight characteristics. Baby steps, people! There's a lot riding on this company to produce a successful product! The world is watching with scrutinizing eyes! So it only makes sense to ease into the flight tests, instead of going headlong into them! I think it marks a paradigm shift in both aviation AND automotive transportation!

  • if i finish my career in aerospace engineering, i'm gonna dedicate my life to this babies.

  • Yeah, I really don't want a drunk driver on my roof 3:00am in the morning.

  • It's called an airplane, you're ripping off the wright brothers. Any plane will roll across the ground, it's called takeoff. :O :D

  • alright kids in the car

    where we goin?

    flying to canada

  • sooooooo when are you guys going public? I wanna buy stock now! lol

  • You can fold them I think.

  • I think it's easy to get 'hypnotized' by the vehicle itself - which is a perfectly natural thing, no doubt. It happened to me. But another perspective altogether is what we are actually seeing here, in real time.

We are witnessing engineering on the fly (no pun intended), almost in the spirit of the Wright brothers. It's very cool to watch from that point of view.

    Like R.P. McMurphy said in "Cuckoo's Nest,' ". . . at least I tried!"

    Godspeed and press on!

  • From their site:

"Become a Sport Pilot in as little as 20 hours of flight time in a Transition®-specific course. For existing pilots, get comfortable quickly with the familiarization training included with every Transition® delivery."

  • the wings fold up, check out other images on the net

  • How will anyone drive this tough? Like on a single lane road how are the wings going to keep away from the other lane?
