As part of a continuing series of Bulletproof Blog™ video interviews with thought leaders across multiple disciplines and industry sectors, I recently sat down with Jim Pinkerton, the Founding Editor of SeriousMedicineStrategy.org, to discuss the current state medicine in the United States and the impediments that are currently hindering advancements in how we cure disease.
During our chat, Mr. Pinkerton defined medicine as different from healthcare in that medicine specifically alters the course of a disease while healthcare refers to any number of treatments and services designed to improve general health. Among the most significant obstacles to medical advancement are burdensome Food and Drug Administration (FDA) processes that now see two-thirds fewer drugs approved compared to 15 years ago; lawsuits that drain R&D budgets in the pharmaceutical industry; and a general disconnect between experts and the public about the major issues that impact medical care in the United States.
As a medicine strategy expert, a frequent contributor to FoxNews, a fellow at the New America Foundation, and veteran of the Ronald Regan and George H. W. Bush Administrations, Mr. Pinkerton shared these insights -- and much more -- with Bulletproof™.
