Yep term for the Hi-Res UID 2D barcode is "Square DOT" it is making a square pattern every time it looks like it is making a dot.

The UID 2D Data matrix barcode is done with patented "Square Dot" system so it can be scratched and still read. Each tiny cell is acually a scribed little box

Shown in real time .003 deep mark with diamond in scribe mode. Almost silent operation.
