I agree, a good horror flick or two (with the overnight rainstorm tapping at the windowsill & the wind howling like a mournful choir of banshees) never fails to put a perverse smile on my face. And certainly, a strategically positioned quilt or cushion to hide behind at a particularly frightful moment... As for the rather disturbing mental image of a vicar running around without trousers, THAT'S what I call a "horror" scenario! And you're so right, they couldn't possibly do that these days. :-)

a little morbidity (is that a real word?) is good for the soul. my partner and i love a good horror late at night with a quilt so i can hide when it's too scary! my teachers used to perform ''farces'' for us at the end of term. usually involved my re teacher dressed as a vicar running round with no trousers! they wouldn't allow that now!

I LOVED those Bugs Bunny cartoons! The one I remember best was where Bugs was lured by a female-robot-bunny to a mad scientist's castle, where Peter Lorre awaited with an evil snicker. Then Bugs ends up meeting Lorre's huge red-haired monster (w/ big tennis shoes), and proceeds to make sport of the creature with his characteristic trickster antics. As for Lorre, he was in things other than horror films: "The Maltese Falcon" & "Casablanca". "Arsenic And Old Lace" is a great spooky comedy, too.

Wow, that is cool! Well, that is humbling. Anyway, yeah he was always a creepy guy, I didn't find out who he was until later, but I know they used to parody him in the old cartoons I used to watch as a kid. Like Bugs Bunny! I'd love to check out some of his work, maybe on TCM sometime. Yeah, funny you mention that Bauhaus song, my friend Roddy has been sending that one to me! I think he plans to put the original version on himself from vinyl so he tells me.

Yes, sadly, Peter Lorre's character goes quite a ways toward scaring the wits out of any self-respecting member of the opposite sex. I'm just thankful that the school principle didn't conspire to exhibit this film to all of us high schoolers, retitled "The Perils Of Dating". If they had, I suspect that I would've been viewed as a complete out-cast, being so fond of spooky movies as I am. Happily, my wife is remarkably tolerant, it seems we both possess something of a pronounced morbid streak.

Hey, Aqua. Someone just sent me your video for "A Stitch In Time" as a Maddy Prior reference. How cool is that? Anyway, thanks for giving my Peter Lorre vid a look & such a thoughtful comment. He's yet another one of my beloved cinematic boogie men from childhood, I'm especially fond of "Mad Love" & a later flick entitled "The Beast With 5 Fingers". And yes, I'll be posting a video for Bela Lugosi, too. LOL! I wanted to find & use something other than Bauhaus' over-used musical tribute to him.
This is from Mad Love, Great film
