This is the segment on President and Civil War hero Ulysses S. Grant from the 2008 WMHT documentary Presidents in Our Backyard. This focuses on the last weeks of Grant's life in Saratoga County, New York. The crew takes you inside to see the cottage almost exactly the way it was in 1885! The voice of Grant is provided by NYS Assembly Majority Leader Ron Canestrari.

  • My last name is Grant.

  • What is the song playing in the back ground? Its beautiful music. What i'd like to hear before going to bed ;D

  • I think people praise Grant too much. I mean they rub it in that south lost the war. Personally, i dont think hes all that cool. Ive heard other documentaries, saying that he was a cruel man. I dont know none of us were around back then. I prefer Lee! I laughed my buttons off over that person putting thier fingers in the coke jar! that was way funny!

Interesting you mention Harry Truman who, unlike Grant, knowingly appointed very corrupt men in his administration while gabbing on about "the buck stopping" with him. Only one of Grant's scandals (the Indian Ring Scandal) can really be blamed on him because he obstructed a Congressional investigation of his friend, Indian Agent Orville Babcock. Like Harding, Grant is maligned by most historians in an unfair way while very corrupt presidents like Truman get a free pass.

  • i got kicked out of that sick room after they caught me with my fingers in that coke jar. now i'm banned for life like Ozzy Osborn when he peed on the Alamo. lol

  • I love love love love you Grant

  • i bet he used to have a couple bricks of personal cocaine. even bill did it

  • ulysses s grant was an amazing man and deserves praise for leading our army through dark days

  • President Grant is one of my favorite United States` Presidents. He was a honorable and faithful husband to his wife. Although he had very painful cancer, he refused medicine so he could finish his writing and leave his wife with financial security. This honorable man deserves lots of respect. He has mine! I agree with your comment.

  • He is completely misunderstood. He was a magnificent and faithful husband, a wonderful father and he was NOT a drunkard.
