OK, my mate Dave found an awesome article on gamedev.net, it was describing how to render water without any geom by doing it as a post process.

Here is my attempt at it so far. I still have much to do, bits to fix and add in, but I think it is looking OK now.

If you want to have a look at the gamedev.net article you can find it here: http://www.gamedev.net/reference/programming/features/ppWaterRender

  • I remember this technique only works if the water is surrounded by geometry. Is that correct?

  • @cgAddict Nope, if you have nothing in your scene you will still have the water effect there.

  • Dude, this is what I've been wanting to do for ages. That's it, you need to write a tutorial on this one for sure :D. Do you look at his engine code or you just read the paper?

  • @cgAddict Yep, all in the new year, read the article and played with the original shader, then wrote this based on it.

As I say, still lots to do on it.

  • Hey Nemo,

Thanks for the reply. Please keep me updated with this water effect. Maybe you can release a demo or source when you're done :D ?
